The Foundation of a Worthy Walk
We are prone to build our lives on ourselves rather than on the transforming work of the Gospel, resulting in lives that lack Christlike formation and credible witness. But when the Gospel takes root, it produces a life that reflects Christ and bears witness to Him.
This sermon, The Foundation of a Worthy Walk, is the first of fourteen in the series “Walk Worthy”. Drawn from a study through the books of the First and Second Epistles to the Thessalonians, the series seeks to answer the deep question “What does it mean to walk in a manner worthy of the God who has called us?” This series will reveal that the test of a worthy walk is not found in ideal conditions, but in facing the real pressures of life in cultures that resist the rule of Christ and in the face of opposition.
In this pericope (1 Thessalonians 1:1-10) Paul reminds the church of who they already are in Christ. The sermon begins by guiding the listener through the historical background of Paul’s writing, while laying the foundation, as the preacher alluded, that a worthy walk does not begin with effort, but rather is built on the Gospel work of God, shaped by the pattern of Christ and seen in a life that speaks.
