Derek A. Ward
Pastor / Elder
Derek A. Ward, an ordained Minister of Religion, currently serves as the Senior Pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel Barbados. He is the fourth son of Pentecostal Pastor Ainsley Ward and his wife Maureen. Before his pastoral ministry, he served eleven years in the now Barbados Police Service and is also a trained social worker.
In 2006, Derek founded Serenity Empowerment Services, where he is the Principal Consultant, assisting individuals, families, and organizations in achieving excellence through counseling, coaching, and training. He has worked with various national and international organizations, including the UNDP and OAS, and has taught part-time at the Barbados Community College and the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology.
Derek holds a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies (Moody Theological Seminary), a Bachelor of Science in Social Work (UWI Cave Hill), and certificates in Counselling and Drug Addiction. With over a decade of consulting experience, he is a respected trainer, coach, and facilitator who has conducted numerous workshops and seminars.
A prodigal in his teenage years, Derek was converted at 22 shortly after meeting his future wife, Sheron. Together, they served the Church of God of Prophecy in various leadership roles. In 2016, Derek answered God's call to plant a new church in Barbados, leading him and Sheron to the USA for church planter training. Upon returning in early 2017, they nurtured a small core group that became an official church in September 2017.
Derek is passionate about personal development and believes in empowering individuals, families, and organizations to achieve excellence. Married since 1993, he and Sheron have two adult children, Asha and Stephan.
